A public meeting is being held to discuss ways to help a father and son who are in an Indian jail.

Amarjit Sohal and his 19-year-old son, Talvinder, of Evington, Leicester, are among family members accused of attacking a wedding hall owner.

The two men made a brief appearance in court on Saturday, when they were remanded back into custody in Hoshiarpor, in the Punjab.

They have now been in prison for a month, over what the family say is a misunderstanding.

The Leicestershire branch of the Indian Workers Association is holding a public meeting on Saturday and is calling on people to support the pair.

General secretary Sital Singh Gill said: “We are appealing for support in our campaign for justice to reunite them with their distraught family in the UK.”

Nine members of the family group, including the groom and his mother, from London, and other relatives from Norway and America, were arrested on October 3.

Three women have since been released on bail.

The meeting takes place at the Belgrave Neighbourhood Centre, in Rothley Street, Leicester, at 6.30pm.
