Press Release: INDIAN WORKERS ASSOCIATION (GB) COMMENDS LEICESTERSHIRE CONSTABULARY OVER PROSECUTION  OF FAKE HEALER

‘With the finding today that Mohammed Ashrafi, is guilty of fraud, the Indian Workers Association (GB) commends Leicestershire constabulary for taking this matter seriously and bringing a prosecution.  It will send a clear warning to others engaged in this type of deception which until now, had largely gone unchallenged,’ said Sital Singh Gill, General Secretary of the IWAGB Leicestershire.  ‘It will also encourage many others to come forward.’

The Indian Workers Association (GB) which was established in the UK in 1938 has campaigned over many decades against fake Guru’s and Baba’s who deceive vulnerable people out of many thousands of pounds, often their entire life savings and have largely escaped punishment.

‘I personally brought the matter to the attention of the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg in a recent meeting, asking for Government to take the issue more seriously and provide public authorities with additional powers to take tougher action,’ said Sital Singh Gill.  ‘It is a credit to Leicestershire Constabulary that it is leading the way for others to follow.’

A jury at Leicester Crown Court convicted him of 15 counts of fraud and one of blackmail after a three-week trial. Ashrafi will be […]
