Indian workers are to pay their respects to a woman who died after being raped on a Delhi bus.

The Great Britain Indian Workers Association has arranged a condolence meeting at Highfields Community Centre, in Leicester, tomorrow, at 6pm.

Association secretary Sital Singh Gill described the incident as brutal and shameful.

He said: “It has shocked and galvanised the whole country, leading to widespread protests and demonstrations demanding quick and severe punishment for the culprits, alongside changes to the law to prevent such incidents happening again.”

The 23-year-old medical student was attacked in the Indian capital on December 16, and died in hospital in Singapore on December 29.

The meeting will hear from a number of speakers addressing issues about the way women are treated in India.
