Leicester stands united against EDL threat on Saturday

Asian, black and white people are uniting against the racist English Defence League (EDL) in Leicester this Saturday. This is still vital, though the EDL have been banned from “marching”. Unite Against Fascism (UAF) has called a protest in the city centre against the EDL’s plans to march. May blocks Leicester marches

Monday, 4 October 2010 12:00 AM  Police ready to block Leicester march By politics.co.uk staff Home secretary Theresa May has banned marches in Leicester on the day that the English Defence League had planned to protest. The right-wing group had planned to march around the city on October 9th and was facing a counter-protest by Unite Against Fascism. That has now been cast into doubt after Ms May authorised an order imposing a blanket ban on marches in the city this Saturday. Concerns raised over EDL protest at special meeting

The Indian Workers’ Association’s (IWA) Leicestershire branch organised the meeting at the Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara, in Leicester. Death row campaigners return

A delegation from Leicester travelled to the Middle East last week to attend an appeal court hearing of 17 men convicted of murdering a Pakistani worker in a fight.
